No.
We went there for the first time on one of the Saturday evenings & there was no waiting at all. But may be it depends. So as others suggested it's good to make reservation especially if your are a group of people as restaurant is small -typical NY city one which is expected though.
Think so
Horrible experience! First and last definitely. The food was alright. I don’t love it but don’t hate it either. For all the reviews I read thought of giving it a try. So charged me 114 dollars when the bill was 80.19. Okay fine, I let it go and took a refund. Then guess what I was charged 83 dollars instead of 80.19. How hard is that?! One screws up and another one adds more to make it worse. Saddest part was that they had hard time understanding to what I was trying to explain. I know it’s only 3 dollars but I would rather to give it someone else who gives a better service.
My friend and I were craving some delicious dosa, so we decided to give this place a try. Happy to say the food was authentic and delicious. Our server was polite and friendly as well. We ordered the paper chaat as our appetizer and it was delicious. Perfectly sweet and sour with a nice crunch. For our entrees we both ordered the Ghee Masala Dosas and to drink we both ordered Mango lassis. Happy to say that we were very happy with the quality of our food and the service at the restaurant. Definitely recommend checking this place out for chaat and dosas and lassis. I'm sure the Thalis and other food in the menu are good too. Will definitely need to try it the next time.
Great chai. Food is too spicy for my taste.
Good food and good service.
Great atmosphere and the food was out of this world. Try the coffee after the meal, you wont be disappointed.
Just ordered food with specific food instructions for food. They said that wrong food was sent so will send the correct food but delivery came an hour after with the wrong food. So when we called he said order from somewhere else as it as an error but isn't even apologetic. Horrible customer service to a regular customer. Kept lying on the phone. If they don't know how to speak to their customer, they should not be in business. During such trying times we try to support them but they don't want business. Hope other customers don't support such horrible business
Great food in a cozy environment
Best south Indian food in the neighborhood! Try sapadu thali for a fulfilling meal.
Blown away from the service and food. The wait staff was attentive and very helpful. They even had outlets by the table to charge your phone (gamechanger for me). Our food came very quickly soon after we ordered. The dosas (their specialty) were gigantic and delicious. My only regret is not ordering more! Cannot wait to come back.
Inclined to give 5 stars if they fix their delivery. Delivery estimates fluctuated from 30 min to 90min, and the food arrived within about 60 min. the request to skip plastic cutlery was ignored, another sign the delivery is asleep at the wheel. the food, on the other hand, is unusual and tasty, highly recommended.
I am definitely gonna come here anytime I am craving South Indian food. The Service is amazing, prices are reasonable for the location and the food is the star of the show. Their Mango lassi, idli, Paneer Masala Dosa and Punjabi Thali were delicious, absolutely no complaints! They have an extensive Menu so I am definitely gonna be trying all of their chaat next time! Definitely stop by if you are around and craving some crunchy dosa and delish coconut chutney ☺️
Great vegetarian buffet here at this tiny South Indian restaurant. Lots of vegan options too. Just ask the staff which dishes are vegan. I'll definitely add this to my list of places to go near my office.
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING FOOD! The best Indian I've had in NY. I knew the restaurant was vegetarian coming in, but the lunch buffet happened to be vegan which was great since my girlfriend is vegan. Every dish was flavorful and special. The owner was friendly and the service was great as well. Cant wait to be back.
Amidst some big names, Chennai Garden is my fav South Indian food place in all of New York tri-state area. The dosa menu itself is going to blow your mind.If you don't mind the spice level, I would recommend gunshot masala dosa with extra onion and green chilli. You can neutralize the burning sensation later with sweet milk-tea.
Absolute best lunch buffet in the area! The waiters are very friendly and attentive too.
The best Indian buffet in town. Also one of the most reasonably priced. The staff are warm and friendly. My favourite Indian restaurant in the city
The best South Indian food in NYC. Come for a truly authentic experience with amazing spice
Delicious vegetarian food and a very friendly staff.
I dont understand how people have rated the restaurant so much. The taste of food was not even average it is below average. And the rate is too high for the quality of the food. The worst sambar I have ever tasted. Was so hungry and totally disappointed.
The food was okay. If you are craving for south indian food I would say that there are other better places in that area.
Reasonably priced Indian Vegetarian restaurant. Food is hot, fresh, and tasty. Good deal for the price.
Love this place for dosas and delicious vegetarian food. Make sure you get the mango lassi.
The food is good but there is room for improvement. I ordered a plain dosa, the waiter told me it doesn’t come with potatoes, order something else. I ordered the chili cheese dosa but told him to not make it spicy. He said okay but still brought it with too much chili in it that I had to separate the chilis from the dosa to be able to eat. They also did not bring any potatoes with it so I had to ask for that again. I have had a better cheese dosa in another restaurant. I will still give them a 4 star because the food is was not terrible.
Excellent vegetarian Indian restaurants with spicy food you never tried before, between 28th street and Lexington st.Try it once you will like it for long.
Wonderful food and good service but can do better in terms of cleanliness and hygiene practice.
I was pleasantly surprised with the food. It's the best south-indian place in the area. We loved their Dosa and coffee. Their sambhar is really great. Definitely coming back.
We loved this place. They had more variety than I've seen at other Indian restaurants. We were delighted to see the place filled with Indian families having dinner. It seemed like a strong endorsement for the authenticity of the food.
Hands down, one of the best places for South Indian food! I tried their filter coffee which was amazing. Their Sambhar and Red Chutney was very authentic and close to what I’ve had in India. Must Visit!
Very nice Indian food. The idli and dosa are great. The Madras coffee was superb. Great service. Tnx
Such good food and service! Best food I have has in a while.
Authentic Indian flavors! I have been to more than a dozen Indian Restaurants in New York but this vegetarian place has absolutely mouth watering Mango Lassi. It's a must try. I had an idli with sambar bowl for appetizer which came with a side of coconut chutney. My girlfriend got herself a paneer masala dosa and she liked it very much. I also ordered their Punjabi Thali which came with plenty of items and each of them tasted amazingly well. I don't prefer vegetarian at all but I didn't miss meats today!
Really nice dosas and chaats are available. Also, a good place if you are looking for vegetarian options.
I have a feeling this place is going to be one of my go to restaurants for great Indian cuisine! The weekend Thali is a generous and exciting selection for someone who doesn’t know what they want to eat. You can have it all! The flavors are wonderful - my personal favorite was the coconut chutney! Staff are super attentive and the service is quick! Reasonable prices as well.
As a vegetarian and someone born and brought up in Chennai, I recommend this place for anyone looking to try South Indian cuisine. I particularly love the spices in the rasam vadai, and their dosas, chutneys and poori masala are all excellent! Closest I've found to home food here.
UPDATE: They must have changed management or something. They are now constantly EXTREMELY RUDE. Additionally, the buffet food is of much lower quality and it's generally VERY spicy.Below mediocre choice for lunch buffet, pricey for dinner. The cashier can be rude at times. Some of the managers watch what you eat during the buffet hour and if they feel you took too much of something they will rudely bring it up to you.Drinks are showcased in their buffet, but they are extra.
$10 buffet, really clean, healthy, homely food. I enjoyed it.
Delicious food, fast and attentive service. Enjoyed the South India Thali and the rava masala Sosa. Super good.
The food is good. And they have vegan option. I recommend anyone who wants an authentic South Indian food to try.
Great quick lunch buffet. Awesome price. The breads...😋😋😋
Great vegetarian indian buffet! Food was really good and mostly vegan.
The BEST veg food. Especially on weekends :) So many unique recipes and I always leave feeling on cloud 9!!!
Authentic South Indian food....uttapam was just great!!
Samosa chaat, ghee masala dosa, rasmalai taste good. Mango milkshake is a bit watery. Garden soup is healthy and light.
So speaking as an omnivore mostly carnivore I was very impressed by how tasty the food was. The wait staff was instrumental in choosing dishes. The level of flavors was amazing! Each dish had just the right amount of spice. Just enough to get you to notice but not overwhelming.
Great dosas, good service. I'm here pretty often.
Incredible food. I ordered some entrees and an appetizer to go. The food was still so hot and fresh when I got home 40 minutes later (thanks weekend MTA..) I am in love with the biryani and the curry, the flavors were so delicious. Also, the people were very kind and the establishment itself very clean.
Would have given them a 5 for their food but they served us an expired soft drink and even when brought this to their attention they did not care. They did not even go check the serving area for other cans that might have expired!
The best Vegetarian Indian restaurant in New York. Serves both North Indian and South Indian food. Delicious food , fantastic service. Food becomes experience when cooked so well. Recommend strongly.
Rich and flavorful vegetarian food, and the servers are amazingly helpful and friendly.
I ordered south indian thali, very disappointed, chutneys feels from frozen store bought, sambar is weird, sweet has dried crust on top... in summary very bad... try Saravana Bavan couple blocks away.
